CUAV SKYE 2 — Intelligent Heated Airspeed Sensor
The CUAV SKYE 2 is a professional intelligent airspeed sensor designed for fixed-wing UAVs, VTOL aircraft, and autonomous aerial platforms operating in demanding environmental conditions.
Combining a high-precision differential pressure sensor, integrated Pitot tube, intelligent heating system, temperature and humidity sensors, and DroneCAN communication, the SKYE 2 provides reliable airspeed measurements for professional flight operations.
Its advanced anti-icing technology, automatic water drainage, and vibration-resistant design make it particularly suitable for aircraft operating in cold, humid, or challenging weather conditions.
Intelligent De-Icing System
The SKYE 2 features an integrated 35W heating system designed to prevent ice accumulation inside the Pitot tube.
Powered by CUAV’s M4C intelligent heating strategy, the system automatically manages temperature regulation to maintain suitable operating conditions.
35W Integrated Heating System
Intelligent Temperature Regulation
Automatic De-Icing
Protection Against Ice Accumulation
This technology helps reduce the risk of inaccurate airspeed measurements caused by frozen or obstructed Pitot tubes.
Integrated Water Drainage
The SKYE 2 incorporates a dedicated drainage system designed to evacuate water from the Pitot tube.
Its internal drainage channels help prevent water accumulation during operation in rain, fog, or humid environments.
Combined with intelligent heating, this design improves airspeed measurement reliability in challenging conditions.
High-Precision SM5391 Sensor
The SKYE 2 integrates an SM5391 differential pressure sensor.
This sensor provides accurate airspeed measurements with low temperature drift and high resistance to vibration.
Key measurement capabilities include:
Airspeed Range: 0–106 m/s
Maximum Airspeed: 381.6 km/h
Differential Pressure Range: ±6,895 Pa
Accuracy: ±1% Full Scale
These characteristics make the SKYE 2 suitable for a wide range of fixed-wing and VTOL aircraft.
Integrated Temperature & Humidity Sensors
The SKYE 2 includes dedicated temperature and humidity measurement capabilities.
Temperature Measurement Range: -20°C to +125°C
Humidity Measurement Range: 0–100% RH
These sensors provide environmental information used by the intelligent heating system.
They help optimize heating performance according to operating conditions.
Dual Temperature Compensation
The SKYE 2 features a dual temperature compensation system designed to improve measurement stability.
This technology reduces the influence of temperature variations on differential pressure measurements.
It is especially useful for aircraft operating across changing altitudes, temperatures, and environmental conditions.
STM32F412 Processor
The sensor integrates an STM32F412 microcontroller based on the Arm Cortex-M4 architecture.
Operating at 100 MHz, the processor manages differential pressure measurements, temperature compensation, intelligent heating, and DroneCAN communication.
Its dedicated processing architecture enables reliable sensor operation independently of the flight controller.
DroneCAN Communication
The SKYE 2 communicates through the DroneCAN protocol.
This digital communication system provides reliable transmission of airspeed information to compatible flight controllers.
DroneCAN also offers improved resistance to electromagnetic interference compared with conventional analog sensor connections.
The SKYE 2 is compatible with supported CUAV, Pixhawk, and other DroneCAN-enabled autopilot systems.
Advanced Anti-Vibration Design
The SKYE 2 uses a differential pressure sensor designed for high vibration resistance.
This makes it particularly suitable for fixed-wing UAVs powered by combustion engines, where vibration levels may be higher than on electric aircraft.
The sensor architecture helps maintain consistent airspeed measurements during demanding flight conditions.
Aerodynamic Pitot Tube Design
The SKYE 2 features a streamlined Pitot tube with a linear aerodynamic structure.
Its design reduces aerodynamic resistance while integrating the heating elements, pressure sensor, and drainage system.
This compact architecture simplifies installation compared with conventional Pitot systems using separate pressure sensors and external tubing.
IP54 Protection
The SKYE 2 supports an IP54 protection rating when installed according to CUAV’s requirements.
This provides protection against dust ingress and water splashes.
The protection rating depends on correct installation and does not make the module fully waterproof.
SKYE 2 HV HUB
The SKYE 2 uses a dedicated HV HUB to provide regulated power to the airspeed sensor.
The HV HUB accepts a wide input voltage range of 18–68V and delivers a regulated 16V output.
Input Voltage: 18–68V
Regulated Output: 16V / 3.5A
Weight: 9g
The hub integrates dedicated power and communication interfaces for the SKYE 2.
Important: The SKYE 2 requires the compatible SKYE 2 HV HUB and is not compatible with the previous-generation SKYE HUB.
ArduPilot & PX4 Compatibility
The SKYE 2 supports ArduPilot and PX4 autopilot platforms through DroneCAN communication.
Compatible systems include CUAV flight controllers, Pixhawk autopilots, and other supported UAV control systems.
Its digital airspeed measurements can be used for airspeed monitoring, flight control, navigation, and stall prevention.
